7 Signs You Should Hire a Brand Designer
There’s a lot you can DIY when you’re just starting out in your business and design is definitely one of them. There are a ton of free design tools, like Canva and PicMonkey, that make it easy to create graphics for your website and social media platforms. But after a while, you may notice that your brand isn’t quite up to the standard you or your customers expect.
Here’s why – professional design is an art and science. It takes a lot of time, effort, and investment to learn and grow these skills. You may have the time and resources to train yourself as a professional designer, (and if you do, more power to ya!) but more than likely that’s not a good investment of your time. You should be focusing on your business and developing your products and services!
I’ve created a list of signs that it’s time to hire a graphic designer and how it’ll be worth the investment :
What’s your sign? You’re growing rapidly and don’t have enough time in the day to accomplish everything you need to.
Why it’s worth the investment : Whether you’re hiring a designer or an accountant, delegating those tasks to someone who’s professionally trained to do them will give you time to work on what only you can do, developing your products and services.
What’s your sign? You’ve tried and failed to capture your brand by yourself.
Why it’s worth the investment : Your skills may not lie in design, and that’s ok. But the success of your business depends on communicating a clear message to your clients and your current logo may not be cutting it. Hiring a designer that you trust to capture your brand will help you attract and connect with more clients.
What’s your sign? You’re not standing up to your competition and it’s causing you to lose clients.
Why it’s worth the investment : Comparison is a tough thing. You should not be comparing your business journey to your competition. But if you’ve researched your competition and even you have to admit to yourself that they look more professional, it may be time to get some branding help. At the end of the day you have to think of your client. Will they choose your competition over you because their brand communicates better than your competition’s?
What’s your sign? Your branding is inconsistent across your website, social platforms, and physical media
Why it’s worth the investment : Your brand is more than just your logo. It’s any place, digital or physical, where your clients can interact with you. It’s crucial that all those areas are communicating the same message across the board. There’s a strategy to this and if you don’t have the time or resources to do the work yourself, hiring a designer is a good idea
What’s your sign? You feel like you don’t know what your brand personality is.
Why it’s worth the investment : It’s hard to fully understand all the minutia of your brand – there’s a lot of little details! A good graphic designer will know what questions to ask to get to the root of your brand. You love your business and spend a lot of time really close to it. Sometimes it takes a new set of eyes to see the details you missed.
What’s your sign? You think you’ll have to redesign your logo at some point because it’s dated or too trendy.
Why it’s worth the investment : It can be tempting to brand your business based on what is trendy right now, but trendy design can become dated quickly. Your next rebrand should fit your brand personality while being classic enough to last you a good part of the life of your business. Good designers will be aware of trends and know how to break enough creative rules to make those trendy elements feel classic.
What’s your sign? You don’t actually have a logo.
Why it’s worth the investment : You’ve worked hard on your business and it would be so sad for potential clients to forget about you because you don’t leave an impression on them. Its time to hire someone to create a logo that fits your brand and gives you confidence!
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, it’s time to talk to a designer. You have put so much time and energy and love into your business. Wouldn’t it be amazing if your branding reflected that?
